After a brilliant summer season with the national Bosnian team, Nikolina Knežević, the twenty-eight-year-old shooting guard, joined the Žabiny Frogs. A well-seasoned athlete, Knežević was an incredible addition to the team who fit right in. Right off the bat, she noted that the girls and her “have good chemistry on and off the court. And I think you can see that we support each other. We are like family. One for all, all for one. I like that the most.”

The Žabiny Frogs have had a successful season. The three goals of the team this Spring were to win the Czech Cup, Federal Cup and the Finals—two of these goals have been completed. 

While reflecting on the two last cup games, Knežević was pleased with how they
played. She believes the “biggest proof of how we played in the Czech and Federal cup are our trophies. I think we played well in the Czech Cup—we played a strong first half against BK Levharti Chomutov in the final four. We were running the floor, we had hard defense and were doing the things the coach wanted from us.”

The girls also went on to win the Federal Cup. When thinking about the differences between the games, Knežević said, “the Federal Cup was more challenging for us. There were some teams from Slovakia. We always play the same teams in the Czech League. We know how they play; the teams‘ motivation and energy are not the same. We could not wait to play different teams at the Federal Cup. I think you could see that on the
court. In our first game, we won with a big point difference. We also showed
good defense.”

On the track of motivation, Knežević finds herself “having the same level of motivation for every game.” However, with the finals coming up, she does feel a bit more eager to play USK Praha. 

“Playing in the finals was a goal of ours and we expected to be in the finals with USK Praha. I have played basketball for many years, and the goal is always the same for me, to win the game no matter who the opponent is. Even if they are the best in the Euro
League or have really good foreign players.”

When looking towards the next and final three games, Knežević said “even if we lose the games with Prague, I hope to have a small point difference. We have worked hard all season and I want that to show. And I want to respect the coach and what he wants from us while on the court.” The girls will prioritize “good defense and then good offense.”

Knežević mentioned the Žabiny fans calling them the “sixth players on the court.” Žabiny is thankful for its Frog Family and looks forward to their support during these final games against USK Praha!

Overall, Knežević has had a successful first season with the team on and off the court. She is “proud of how we improved from the start of the season as individuals and as a team. I’m proud of how much we respect and support each other. I like the connections between players and our coaches. These friendships are for a lifetime.”

Nezáleží na tom, proti komu Nikolina Knežević hraje, cílem je vždy zvítězit. A to i ve finále s USK Praha

Po skvělé letní sezóně s bosenským národním týmem se osmadvacetiletá křídelnice Nikolina Knežević připojila k týmu Žabiny Brno. Velmi zkušená sportovkyně Knežević byla parádní posilou do týmu, do něhož okamžitě svojí povahou zapadla. Hned na začátku si všimla, že si se spoluhráčkami sedly jak na hřišti, take mimo něj. „Myslím si, že je vidět, že se navzájem podporujeme. Jsme jako rodina. Jeden za všechny, všichni za jednoho. To se mi líbí nejvíc,“ popsala.

Žabiny mají za sebou úspěšnou sezónu. Všechny tři cíle z jarní části si splnily – vyhrály Český i Federální pohár a postoupily do finále české nejvyšší ligy.

Při opohléhnutím na poslední dva pohárové zápasy byla Knežević spokojena s tím, jak se její tým herně prezentoval. „Věřím, že největším důkazem toho, jak jsme hrály v Českém a Federálním poháru, jsou naše trofeje. V Českém poháru jsme předvedly silnou první polovinu proti Levharticím Chomutov v semifinále. Běhaly jsme po hřišti, měly jsme tvrdou obranu a dělaly jsme přesně ty věci, které po nás trenér chtěl,“ vzpomínala.

Brněnské hráčky také vyhrály Federální pohár. Když Knežević přemýšlela o rozdílech mezi těmito dvěma poháry, uvedla: „Federální pohár byl pro nás náročnější. Byly tam týmy ze Slovenska. V české lize hrajeme vždycky proti stejným týmům a tak víme, jak hrají. Motivace a energie týmů nejsou stejné. Nemohli jsme se dočkat, až se utkáme s jinými týmy v rámci Federálního poháru. Myslím, že to bylo vidět i na hřišti. V prvním zápase jsme vyhrály s velkým bodovým rozdílem. Také jsme ukázaly dobrou obranu,“ přiblížila.

Co se týče motivace, Knežević pevně věří, že se dokáže pro každý zápas nabudit stejně. Nicméně s finálem, které se blíží, se cítí trochu více nadšená hrát proti soupeři jako je USK Praha. „Hrát ve finále byl náš cíl a očekávali jsme, že se dostaneme do finále právě s USK Praha. Já hraju basketbal už mnoho let a můj cíl je vždy stejný – vyhrát zápas bez ohledu na to, kdo stojí proti nám. I kdyby to byl celek, co je nejlepší v Evropské lize nebo měl opravdu dobré zahraniční hráče,“ nebojí se českého mistra Knežević.

I přesto si je vědoma soupeřovic síly. „I kdybychom prohráli zápasy s Prahou, doufám, že jen nepatrným rozdílem. Celou sezónu jsme tvrdě pracovali a chci, aby se to projevilo. A chci respektovat trenéra a to, co od nás chce na hřišti,“ prozradila a dodala, že klíčem k tomuto úspěchu bude především dobrá obrana, že které se mohou odpíchnout na útočné polovině.

Knežević vyzdvihla podporu fanoušků Žabin, které nazývá šestými hráči na hřišti. Žabiny se svojí #frogfamily může oprávněně pyšnit a holky se spoléhají na jejich přízeň i během těchto posledních zápasů proti USK Praha.
